Urgent Appeal after Water Tank Collapse
Sheik Hatab Memorial Nursery School (SHM
Nursery) is a nursery school in the village of Gunjur in the south
of The Gambia, with around 160 children aged between 3 and 6 years. Pageant has been
helping this school in many ways since 2008, and there have been
incredible improvements in the school under dynamic founder Ahmed Manjang.
They have recently suffered a major calamity, when the concrete tower holding their water tank collapsed. Fortunately none of the children was nearby when it happened, and the only casualties were some banana plants. However, without water for sanitation, cooking etc. the school cannot function, and Ahmed has reluctantly closed the school. We have launched an urgent appeal to help rebuild the water tower, and are trying to raise £525. We need to help Ahmed to replace the concrete tower and tank, and reopen the school, so that the children can resume their lessons.
